• Dr. Seymour Adler will be the guest speaker at the December 4th meeting of the Metropolitan New York Association of Applied Psychology (METRO). The topic is called, “The Ropes to Learn and the Ropes to Skip: Pathways to On-boarding Success.” METRO is America’s oldest professional psychological association and attract esteemed I/O psychologists from all over the world every year. • The I/O Program at Hofstra University is pleased to announce that their joint grant with the Parker Jewish Institute was selected for funding by the State Department of Health. The grant, which will start in January 2008 and will end three years later, is designed to improve the
• health and quality of life outcomes for patients with dementia by developing a best practice training program for nurses who are caring for these residents. Working along with Dr. William Metlay, who will be principal investigator for the Hofstra component of the grant, will be Drs. Bernard Gorman, Michael Goodstone, and Jennifer Neiman-Gondor. Students from the Ph.D. Program in Applied Organizational Psychology and the M.A. Program in Industrial/Organizational Psychology will assist the faculty in the development and evaluation of the training program.
• CONGRATULATIONS to Dr. Jinyan Fan and Felix (Jamie) Lopez! Dr. Fan and Jamie were awarded the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) Small Grant Award of $5,000.00 to fund their research entitled Testing the Efficacy of a New Procedure in Reducing Faking in Personality Tests in Selection Contexts.
• We would like to welcome Dr. Cong Liu (Ph.D., University of South Florida) from Illinois State University as a new addition to the faculty. Dr. Liu’s research interests include cross-cultural psychology, interpersonal conflict at work, occupational health psychology, and cross-cultural job stress.
• Dr. William Metlay conducted a seminar about the role of feedback in improving behaviors and objective outcomes at Sun Yat-Sen University during a week-long visit to China this past March. As part of his visit, he met with faculty from various departments to discuss a joint exchange program for graduate students and faculty in industrial/organizational psychology. In addition, Dr. Metlay discussed with Chinese business leaders in Guangzhou about their needs and how industrial/organizational psychology can be utilized to help their organizations.
• Jennifer Nieman-Gonder and Dr. Terri Shapiro were nominated as finalists for the Highly Commended Paper Award for 2006, for their paper entitled "Effect of communication mode in justice-based service recovery." Their article was published in the scholarly journal Managing Service Quality.
